Asma Husain is a designer with a deep interest in community research. She has a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Fine Art from Colby College, Maine, and a Master’s degree in Architecture from Rice University, Texas. She has travelled widely through Asia, Europe, and North and South America. Her writings on art, architecture and social issues have been published in Pakistan and internationally. Her graduate thesis, titled Fatal Attractions, focused on the impact of recurring violence in city life, using Karachi as a case study. In the process of designing this book, she has helped weave together the stories of the people profiled by assimilating various aspects of their lives into imaginative diagrams, and then creating a spatially sensitive relationship of these with the history, present chaos, and future growth of Karachi as an urban phenomenon. |
